While India's new Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman finished taking oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday morning, the line of Control (loC) in Poonch sector was already witnessing heavy exchange of fire between the Pakistan Army and the Indian Army.

According to field reports, the Pakistan Army had initiated unprovoked firing in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch around 8.50 a.m using small arms, automatic rifles and mortars to target the forward Indian posts in the area. The firing continued for over one hour during which Indian side also retaliated strongly.

Meanwhile, situation remained peaceful in Rajouri sector where schools were closed down following fresh flare up of tension in Nowshera sector on August 31.

The district administration had announced closure of schools falling in the forward areas for a period of three days. Construction of bunkers in the area is going on in full swing.

The district administration in Rajouri had launched a pilot project to construct 100 bunkers. According to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, work on at least three dozen bunkers is nearing completion with active support of the local population.
