Mohit Kandhari

Pakistan Army on Wednesday violated ceasefire agreement in Bhimber Gali (BG) sector bordering Rajouri-Poonch districts.

This is the 30th incident of continuous ceasefire violation  in the aftermath of surgical strikes inside PoK by the Indian Commandos.

long range 82 mm mortars were fired by the Pakistan Army to target the forward Indian positions along with automatic weapons.

In response to the 'unprovoked' firing Indian Army strongly retaliated the fire using similar calibre of weapons. In the heavy exchange of fire at least one Indian Army officer received splinter injuries.

An Indian jawan identified as Sepoy Sudees Kumar had attained martyrdom in the same area on Sunday evening after Pakistan Army targeted him using sniper fire at a forward location.

According to Ministry of Defence spokesman in Jammu, "heavy shelling was reported in the forward areas of Bhimber Gali around 4.30 pm". He said Pakistan Army used small arms, automatics and 82 mm mortars to target the forward positions.

More than two dozen 82 mm mortar shells landed in the Tarkundi village sending shivers down the spine of local villagers huddled inside the houses after the firing began. Till the time of filing the report heavy shelling was going on in the forward areas.

According to civilians living in the area, "Pakistan Army was using 82 mm mortar shells and automatic weapons to target the civilian areas".

The unprovoked firing from the Pakistan side may have taken place to provide cover fire to the heavily armed infiltrators.

The alert Indian jawans have been regularly recording suspected movement of infiltrators on the other side of the line of Control. According to Intelligence agencies small batches of heavily armed militants have been brought close to the loC by their handlers to push them inside the Indian territory. The militant handlers are desperately trying to send more and more infiltrators ahead of the peak winter season and closing down of mountain passes.

Meanwhile, one Indian army jawan  identified as Anil Bura was found hanging in his barrack in Mendhar early wednesday morning. "Attempts to resuscitate  him  through medical assistance proved futile", defence sources said adding an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts in the case.
