When the whole nation paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb drew a parallel between the Father of the Nation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Modi also could move the people of India as Gandhiji did.

“When Mahatma Gandhi used to address the nation, all the Indians from village to towns are moved. Now these days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also like that. I will give just one example. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from Red Fort and appealed to those who has money, who are self-sufficient to give away LPG subsidy, crores of Indians who are self-sufficient responded and gave away the LPG subsidy. He is the Prime Minister. He could have made a law. He could have asked the Petroleum Minister to make a law for making income slab for availing LPG subsidy scheme. But he did not do that, because he knows Mahatma Gandhi,” said Deb at a function, a video of which went viral on Facebook.

“Why I am giving u this example… In this country, Mahatma Gandhi came from the land of Gujarat whose one appeal used to move the people of India. Now Narendra Bhai Modi also came from the land of Gujarat and his appeal also could move the people equally. 1.5 crore people of India responded to his appeal and gave away LPG subsidy,” said Deb.

Last week, the Tripura Chief Minister landed himself in a controversy by saying that Prime minister, Narendra Modi has got a brother who runs auto rickshaw and mother lives in 10X12 house. “He (Prime Minster Modi) has got his mother, who is old but Prime minister does not keep her in the Prime minister’s official residence. She still lives in a 10X12 house,” said Deb while addressing a gathering at Agartala on Saturday.
