Now, employee's suicide comes to haunt BSES

Staff Reporter

While the contractual employees of power distribution company BSES called off their week-long strike on Monday, controversy refuses to cease for the BSES companies as a case of one of their contractual employees allegedly committing suicide last week surfaced on Monday.

Although the union workers claimed that the 28-year-old Sis Ram, who hanged himself with a ceiling fan at his residence, took the extreme step because of the "immense pressure" at his workplace, an official statement from the BSES said that he was reportedly under depression due to some domestic issues and was on 15-days leave.

"In an unfortunate incident, Mr. Sis Ram, a linesman working for an electrical contractor (M/s PK Electricals), committed suicide on June 19, 2015. He was reportedly under depression due to some domestic issues. He was on 15 days leave since June 10, 2015. Our sympathies are with family of the deceased," said the statement.

"There were absolutely no work related issues. Due to an inter-union rivalry, efforts are being made by some vested interest to blame BSES. Police is investigating the case," added a BSES spokesperson.

Earlier, the striking contractual employees of BSES called off their week-long strike after former law Minister  Somnath Bharti, met with the disgruntled workers on Monday morning.
