Now, CBI must grill PM: BJP

A day after former Telecom Minister A Raja told a court that every decision of the spectrum allocation was taken with the PM’s “concurrence”, the BJP on Tuesday demanded that Manmohan Singh should be questioned by the CBI in the 2G scam case.

Describing Raja’s deposition in the court as “shocking”, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, “Now it is clear that the PM is also involved in the scam. The CBI must interrogate him over 2G issues as the matter is in court and the probe will not be completed if the PM is not interrogated.”

Former Telecom Minister on Monday reiterated in 2G Special Court that he took all actions with the concurrence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and did nothing unilaterally. Raja also blamed the CBI and CAG for working in “predetermined manner” against him. He said the monitoring of Supreme Court and sensationalism due to the flawed CAG report had worsened the situation for him even as if he is denying all the charges against him.

“I did not take any unilateral decision, but acted on the proposals of DoT and discussions with other Cabinet Ministers and the then Solicitor General and after properly apprising the Prime Minister and taking his concurrence. My actions do not amount to abuse of official position or any other offence,” Raja told Special CBI Judge OP Saini.

Javadekar said, “It is very serious revelation in the CBI court. While answering thousands of questions he has made it very categorically clear that every decision about 2G was taken after PM okayed it.”Terming the UPA as “most corrupt Government that India has ever seen”, he said the PM owes an answer to the nation on the issue.Referring to the coal scam, Javadekar said, “As far as coal is concerned, the PM himself was the Minister and every decision taken on coal mines has been done with his clear orders.”
