No varsity named after Dr Radhakrishnan yet

The nation remembers him just once in a year, on his birthday. Though Radhakrishnan was known as an authority on Indian philosophy and civilisation and was considered as India’s Global Ambassador, the country is yet to have an institution named after him.

Though his house in Dr Radhakrishnan Saalai in Chennai stands unnoticed, it retains its old world charm and elegance. The only resident of the house is Indira Gopal, widow of Dr S Gopal, the former President’s son.

“It would be apt to name a university after him where there would be facilities for research on Indian philosophy and culture,” said Sam Rajappa, columnist.

Interestingly, the Centre is planning to name a Central University in the South after Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali. “There are many universities in the country which are named after persons who have never entered a school in their life time. It would be ideal if one of the Central Universities is named after Dr Radhakrishnan,” said Rajappa.
