No separate HC building for AP yet

The hope of Andhra Pradesh to have a separate High Court of its own suffered a major setback with a Division Bench ruling out the possibility till a new High Court building was constructed in Andhra Pradesh.

The Bench observed that under the AP State Reorganisation Act, it was the responsibility of the Central Government to release funds for building a new High Court for Andhra Pradesh. The Bench headed by Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta rejected the stand of the Telangana Government that a separate High Court building can be built in Hyderabad till the new building was constructed in Andhra Pradesh.

“The Andhra Pradesh High Court building cannot be constructed outside AP, the Bench observed while referring to the offer of Telangana Government that it will provide a suitable place in Gachi Bowli area of Hyderabad for AP High Court. “The present High Court building in Hyderabad will go to Telangana”, it said. The court was passing its orders on a petition filed by a senior advocate seeking early bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court.
