No post-poll pact with BJP: Omar

Ruling out alliance with the BJP to form the next Government in Jammu & Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday conceded some failures but took pride in “living up to expectations” during his six-year coalition rule. Omar categorically rejected exit polls and explained that his party has no lines of communication open with any party, including the BJP to forge future alliance.

Addressing an unprecedented Press conference a day before the counting of votes, Abdullah said that his twitter remark on UPA’s failure to confer Bharata Ratna to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was not his attempt to cosy up with the BJP. “The political alliances are not made in Bollywood style. I tweeted about Vajpayee as it was his birthday. How can one tweet make an alliance and suddenly other aspects will disappear. This is not the way politics is done,” he said.

Omar ruled out alliance with the BJP saying the party has maintained silence over the Article 370 issue but not dissociated itself. It has not given up Babri Masjid Ram Janambhoomi issue or the Uniform Civil Code. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still silent over the forced conversion issue,” he said. He said that it is unlikely for a party like NC to ally with BJP having known the party’s stance over the issues relating to J&K.
