A day after Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi suggested in a Jammu rally that there should be a debate on Article 370 whether it has benefited Jammu & Kashmir or not, his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar emphatically said there was no need of any debate on Article 370. Nitish Kumar also said that the people of the country would not accept any change in the basic framework of the Constitution.

“There is no need at all to have a debate on Article 370… the framework of the Constitution should remain as it is and the people of the country will not tolerate any change in Constitution,” said the Bihar Chief Minister, while adding that there has a been an attempt to make a dividing line in the country.

“Desh mein ek bevajah rekha kichne ki koshish ho rahi hai jise desh ki janata sweekar nahi karegi,” Nitish Kumar said. The Chief Minister also said that there should be debate on poverty and development in the country, not on Article 370. “We’re of the opinion that there should not be any change or debate on Article 370,” said Nitish Kumar.
