In order to meet the increasing demand of parking spaces and to effectively tackle the menace of illegal parking on roadside, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to construct a multi-level car parking in Sadar Bazar area through Public Private Partnership (PPP).

Standing Committee Chairman Veena Virmani said that parking space is perfect in the area as it is visited by many traders so frequently. “A multilevel parking is need of the hour and considering it the civic body has decided to construct the facility very soon after clearing the land related issue with Indian Railways.

She said that a team including members of traders’ association would pay a visit to Railway Minister to discuss the issue.

Earlier this year, the civic body had identified land to construct 56 multi-storey, surfaces and stack parking lots for which the work is in process. The official told The Pioneer that after the completion of the parking lots approximately 12,427 cars can be easily parked in areas comes under corporation.

While surface and multilevel parking lots are commonly known in metros, stack parking facilities are those where hundreds of cars can be parked in a stacked-up fashion on a structure made of grill which may have two or three platforms. Cars from the bottom are moved mechanically to the top level or anywhere else for parking purposes.

These parking sites were demarcated and identified on the basis of certain parameters that include footfalls, distance from nearest markets, non-availability of parking sites in locality among other important factors.
