Nitish pleads court hadn't taken cognizance in murder case

PNS

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appeared unperturbed over the Supreme Court order seeking reply of Election Commission of India (ECI) over a complaint against him on Monday in the 18-year-old murder case registered with Pandarak police station. The complaint case sought the termination of the membership of Nitish from legislative Council.

Responding to petitioner’s contention that the Bihar Chief Minister did not disclose the criminal case pending against him in affidavits since 2004, except for 2012, Nitish said “when cognizance was set aside by court in the case, what was there to be declaredIJ”

The chief Minister said, “...Issues like the period when cognizance was taken on a complaint case and the subsequent High Court stay has to be taken into account, it is in public knowledge that I am exonerated in the police investigation.”

The apex court has sought reply from the ECI.
