The National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with J&K police and CRPF, on Saturday, conducted searches at nine locations in Shopian, Anantnag and Jammu districts of Jammu and Kashmir in a case relating to Jaish front Lashkar-e-Mustafa’s plans to carry out terror activities in the Union Territory.

Following the searches, one accused Irfan Ahmed Dar of Batingoo, Anantnag was also arrested in the case during the day. Preliminary investigation has revealed that he was involved in the conspiracy of carrying out terrorist activities in collusion with other arrested accused persons, the NIA said.

“During the searches, many digital devices including mobile phones, hard disks, memory cards, pen drives, laptops and many booklets containing incriminating materials have been recovered from the premises of the arrested accused and the suspects in the case,” the agency said in a statement.

The case was initially registered as FIR No. 16/2021 of Gangyal Police Station, Jammu relating to conspiracy by Lashker-e-Mustafa (LeM), working at the behest of Jaish-e- Mohammed, to carry out terrorist activities in J&K with an intention to threaten sovereignty, integrity and security of India.

The NIA had re-registered the case on March 2 this year and took over the investigation.

Meanwhile, Intelligence inputs suggest Pakistani terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Tayabba  (LeT) are planning attack in Jammu city by planting IED inside or outside religious centres. Following this, a high alert has been sounded in the Union Territory in the run up to the August 5 anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 and Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
