National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches in Karnataka in connection with a human trafficking case.

The searches were conducted on Saturday at two locations in Bengaluru City, Karnataka at the premises of a suspect, who is suspected to be involved in making fake ID proof documents for the Bangladeshi traffickers and the trafficked victims.

During the searches, various incriminating documents, six digital devices including  hard disks and  mobile phones used for making the forged documents were seized, the agency said.

“The women were trafficked from Bangladesh to India by accused persons on the pretext of providing jobs in India but were forced into prostitution instead,” the agency said in a statement.

The case was originally registered on June 8, 2021 at Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station, Bengaluru City against 13 accused persons relating to a raid conducted by Karnataka Police at a rented house where seven Bangladeshi women and one child were rescued from the custody of human traffickers.

The NIA had re-registered the case July 13 under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code, Foreigners Act, 1946 and relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
