Pulling up the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for not implementing its order on parking of vehicles at lajpat Nagar market, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday said the decisions of the Tribunal should be executed as a decree of the civil court. “We have enough powers to execute our orders. Don’t push us to exercise those powers,” a bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar said.
Earlier, SDMC had claimed helplessness in executing the Tribunal’s order to stop vehicles from being parked on metalled roads. The civic body claimed that the offending vehicles were being seized but were being released from the courts. Reacting to the argument, the Tribunal said the civic body cannot blame the courts and directed the SDMC, the Delhi Police and the Traffic Police to jointly come to an understanding as to how the ban order on parking can be implemented in a better way. On the issue of construction of multi-level parking, the bench once again questioned the need of 100-bed hospital in the area.
