Ammi, Maaf Kardena" (Mother, forgive me). These were the last words of a distraught Anjum Faizan in her selfie-video before she hanged herself from the ceiling of her mother's home in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Anjum was married to one Mohammed Irfan on January 13 last, but she ended her life unable to bear the harassment by her husband and in-laws.
In the video recorded on her phone, Anjum blamed her mother in-law, husband Irfan and sister-in-law Ayesha for driving her to take the extreme step.
"I am ending my life due to the harassment of my in-laws", Anjum said identifying the culprits by name.
The incident occurred in Balapur area, a district in the outskirts of Hyderabad. After recording less than thirty seconds long message, the woman hanged herself in the bathroom of her house when other family members were away.
Her family members said that she had returned to her parents home a few days ago complaining of harassment for more dowry. The tragedy struck even as the elders in the family were trying to resolve the issue.
The body was sent for the postmortem and the police have booked a case against Irfan, his mother and sister.
