Senior most leader of Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Gujarat, Jayant Patel was on Thursday arrested by police on the charges of rioting, assaulting public servants, unlawful Assembly, trespassing and damaging public property.
Patel popularly known as ‘Bosky’ was arrested from Umreth town of Anand district. His supporters were reported to have created ruckus and assaulted official and teachers at a science fair near Anand on Wednesday morning. The incident took place at a science fair organised by the Gujarat Education Department at Ratanpura village in Umreth Taluka. Bosky and his supporters were apparently angered over his name not being mentioned on the invitation of this State Government function.
As per the police complaint filed by Rakesh Khira, official of the District Education and Training Centre, Bosky and his supporters stormed into the venue and began arguing with him over absence of sitting legislator’s name on the event’s invitation card.
“Bosky allegedly slapped Khira despite him apologizing for the erroneous omission. Khira also claimed that Patel and his supporters manhandled two other teachers and damaged property,” A J Chauhan, Police Sub Inspector, Umreth, said. Based on the complaint, Umreth taluka police later lodged an FIR against Bosky and seven of his associates under various charges, including assaulting public servants and rioting. The police later arrested Bosky on late Thursday afternoon.
