Chatra journalist Akhilesh Pratap alias Indradev Yadav was killed by the members of Naxal outfit Tritiya Prastuti Committee for not paying levy to them. According to Chatra Police, the TPC members have been demanding a levy of Rs 7 lakh from Yadav but he had been avoiding them at least for the last three years.
Yadav, a local television reporter in Chatra, was shot dead on Thursday last by some unidentified criminals while returning home from his office. Talking to mediapersons in Chatra, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anjani Kumar Jha said that demand of levy was the only reason behind his killing.
“Yadav had been installing electric poles under government rural electrification scheme as a contractor in the areas located under Rajpur police station during which a demand of levy was raised by the TPC cadres...and was killed for not meeting their demands,” said the SP. The SP added out of a total of six accused persons involved in the case, three persons — Suraj Sao, Birbal Sao and Jhaman Sao have been arrested while the other three people – Munesh Ganjhu, Mukesh Ganjhu and one other person are still at large.
