There was more trouble for the scam-tainted leadership of the Trinamol Congress as two of senior leaders Subroto Mukherjee and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were on Thursday summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
The leaders have been summoned in connection with their roles in the Narada pay-off case, which had already sucked into its vortex a dozen of Trinamool functionaries.
Mukherjee, a senior Minister in the State Cabinet who spoke through his lawyer, said he would “cooperate with the investigation agencies” but sought time till July 21 the TMC-sponsored Martyrs’ Day.
Ghosh Dastidar, a doctor-turned Trinamool MP could not be contacted for her comments. CBI sources said the MP “was tried to be contacted over the telephone but the calls were not answered and so a summon notice was sent via e-mal”.
Thursday’s development come a day after the CBI sent summon notice to veteran Trinamool MP and Saugato Roy and his former Ministerial colleague in the Centre Sultan Ahmed. Ahmed and his MlA brother Iqbal had already been grilled twice by the investigating agencies for their alleged role in the Narada case.
Roy who was summoned on Thursday however did not show up sources said.
Meanwhile in a related development the stated sting journalist and Narada News CEO Mathew Samuels was summoned by a Kolkata Police Station in relation to an extortion case that was allegedly slapped after the Narada expose.
Samuels had earlier complained that he was being questioned on Narada sting case rather than the extortion case for which he was being repeatedly summoned.
