The lawyers of Narada News CEO Mathew Samuels are planning to move a contempt petition against Kolkata Police for ignoring the Calcutta High Court order to carry on parallel investigation into the Narada video case.
Hours after Samuels was detained-and later released at Delhi Airport on his departure from Dubai on Saturday in persuasion of a “look out notice” by the Kolkata Police, his lawyers claimed the act was a sheer violation of the Court directive and would invite contempt proceedings.
The Kolkata Police which promptly sent across a rejoinder to the authorities concerned in Delhi so that Samuels could be released said there was a communication error.
A senior IPS officer said after Samuel’s lawyers shot off a letter to Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar protesting the incident, “we respect the order of the honourable High Court and will abide by the same.”
Notwithstanding, Samuels’s lawyer Arunabha Ghosh said a contempt petition will be filed at the High Court demanding “six month’s jail” for the officers “responsible for this gross violation of the Court order.”
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A Banerjee had earlier ordered an interim stay into the Narada sting operation probe launched by the Kolkata Police till the next date of hearing on August 19.
