Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has caused a stir in his party as well as Telangana region by declaring that the backward classes’ leader R Krishnaiah will be the Chief Minister of Telangana if his party comes to power in the State.
Speaking during a roadshow in Bellampally town of Adilabad on Wednesday Naidu said that he was very serious in his promise that the first Chief Minister of Telangana will be a backward class leader.R Krishnaiah, who heads backward classes’ welfare association, recently joined the Telugu Desam Party, is contesting from lB Nagar Assembly constituency near Hyderabad.
“TDP wants that the power should be in the hands of the poor and the weaker sections not in the hands of rich and powerful. There is no question of allowing the power to go in to the hands of Doras (landlords),” he said. His statement is also seen as a dig at the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has backtracked from his earlier promise of making a Dalit the first CM of Telangana.
“Only TDP is committed to empowerment of the weaker section, especially the backward classes,” he added. Before leaving for the election campaign in Adilabad district, Chandrababu visited the residence of film star Pawan Kalyan, the founder of Jana Sena party. The two leaders, presumably, discussed the plans for election campaign.
In a victory of sorts, Pawan Kalyan has changed his position on supporting lok Satta president Jaiprakash Narayan in Malkajgiri lok Sabha constituency and announced his support for Telugu Desam Party candidate Malla Reddy.Earlier Pawan had assured Jaiprakash that he will be campaigning for him. The loksatta president said that he can understand the position of the actor as he was under tremendous pressure from other parties to support him.
Popular film star had shared the dais with BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in his four rallies in Telangana on Tuesday.
