Nagaland Govt plans to bar facebook blog

The Nagaland Government is planning to write to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to bar the Facebook pages Naga Blog and Naga Spear, which has played a role in inciting the mob on March 5 even as Section 144 CrPC, which had been in force in Nagaland’s commercial hub Dimapur for last several days, was lifted on Friday following substantial improvement of the situation.

Inspector General of Police (Dimapur Range) W Jamir said this on Friday, while adding that the police have so far arrested 50 people for their involvement in the mob, which broke into the Central Jail, Dimapur on March 5 and lynched to death rape accused Syed Farid Khan. The restriction on the internet and mobile services are, however, on, he said.

“Most of those arrested were students while one or two were professionals engaged in different sectors. During the interrogation, they have admitted that they communicated with each other through social media, particularly through the Facebook pages of Naga Blog and Naga Spear,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that the Nagaland police have already issued ‘look Out Notice’ urging some of the identified persons, who were involved in the mob, to surrender to the local police and released their photographs through the local media. Jamir reiterated that  Nagaland police were working hard to bring all those involved in the crime to the book. “Some of the ring leaders of the mob, however, have gone underground to evade arrest,” he said.

He also requested the people to help the police in bringing the culprits to the book and said that police would maintain strict confidentiality of the individuals, who help the police. It may be mentioned here that panic had gripped the Dimapur town following the incident on March 5, when a mob broke into a jail and lynched a rape accused.

The Nagaland Government had already suspended three top officials-the DC, the SP and the Jail Superintendent for their failure to handle the situation on March 5 and instituted a judicial probe over the incident.
