The story of six yards of elegance, the world famous Mysore silk saree is no different from other businesses at the time of Covid -19.  The Covid -19 lockdown for the last two months has affected its sales at the time of festive and wedding season.

The State owned Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited (KSIC) produces traditional silk sarees and markets it.

The lockdown has halted the looms hitting the production of over 20,000 silk sarees putting weavers in a spot. These beautiful sarees represent the Royal heritage and Grandeur of Mysuru scions.

Mysore silk sarees are in great demand across the country and abroad, as people prefer them for auspicious occasions like weddings, festivals and house-warming ceremonies. The Covid pandemic has now robbed its lustre  in the  wedding and festive seasons for the last  two months.

According to senior officials of the corporation they have now slowly opening its branches in Bengaluru and also in Mysuru apart from other cities. The KSIC has around 17 showrooms across the country. They say that in view of the fear of corona virus customers were not visiting the showrooms.

“We have opening showrooms after the lockdown across Karnataka and people are hesitant to come into the showroom because of the Covid fear. We have to make up for the losses. It is not just question of demand but Covid has affected us badly,” said an official.
