The BJP on Sunday urged President Pranab Mukherjee to dismiss the Akhilesh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh for its failure to curb communal riot in Muzaffarnagar and impose Centre’s rule there. The Opposition party also demanded the President to order a judicial inquiry into the matter.
“The baseless cases slapped on BJP leaders should be withdrawn. Victims of the riots should get adequate compensation,” a BJP delegation led by party chief Rajnath Singh demanded the President.
The BJP delegation claimed riots in Muzaffarnagar took place because of an incapable administration and policies inspired by communal politics. It also claimed that the riots were sponsored by the Samajwadi Party, a claim that has been ‘established’ through a sting operation carried out by a private TV news channel.
“Action should be taken against those in Government whose role behind riots have been established in the sting operation,” the BJP leaders demanded. Party vice president Um Bharti, State BJP Chief laxminat Bajpai and others were part of the delagtion.
