A Mumbai court has quashed the non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Maharashtra minister and BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in a defamation case filed by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. The warrant was set aside on the condition that Rane appears in court on Tuesday to record his plea.
The case stems from Rane's 2023 remarks allegedly calling Raut a "snake" who would switch to the NCP. The court had earlier rejected Rane's plea for permanent exemption from appearances, issuing multiple warrants after repeated no-shows.
Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP, filed the complaint calling Rane’s comments defamatory and false. Rane is the son of BJP MP and former Union Minister Narayan Rane.
