In what could give creased foreheads to some top ruling party politicians in Bengal as the CBI currently probing the multi-crore Saradha chit fund case on Tuesday dug up some more CDs and some “incriminating” documents that could go miles in proving ponzi fund-politician nexus in the State.
According to CBI sources, intense search by an eight-member team yielded 18 CDs and documents from one of Saradha’s Salt lake offices “which could be of some importance.”
The Central investigating agency had on Monday recovered two hard disks and a host of other documents including cashbooks that from the chit fund groups DN-29 and Midland park offices at Salt lake following necessary information received from a woman staff member of the group who used to handle the accounts department.
Both the finds of Monday and Tuesday were carefully hidden away in the respective offices. Curiously the State Police investigation team created by the Mamata Banerjee Government last year — when Rs20,000 crore scam exploded in its face — failed to recover what the CBI managed to. The top State SIT officials are also likely to be questioned by the CBI team in this regard sources said.
This week’s recoveries not only afford definite evidence in the hands of the CBI against Sudipto Sen and jailed TMC MP Kunal Ghosh but also “it could come in handy in finding out the roles of some senior politicians” sources said.
“Now we can safely claim that we have vital data” about the scam in which politicians were also involved in a big way sources said adding they were now looking for a “red notebook” and some more “cashbooks” apart from a few pen drives “which can finally join the missing links.”
