More attacks on BJP men at Durgapur

The ruling Trinamool Congress continued to do what it did the best: Brutal persecution of the Opposition. It launched more attacks on the BJP workers on Thursday this time at industrial city Durgapur, sources said.

About 10 BJP workers were injured, two of them seriously when a band of Trinamool men attacked them while they were going to attend a party rally to protest the series of post-poll attacks including the firing on saffron workers a few days ago at Basirhat leaving 22 people injured.

“The bus they were travelling in was attacked and badly damaged near MIC gate at laldoha,” local BJP sources said adding the incident took place near Durgapur at about 12.30 in the noon when they were going to attend the protest programme of the party.

They were attacked for the second time with lathis, and rods at the police station and right in front of the men in the khaki when they went there to lodge complaints against the first incident even as the cops stood silent spectators.

“They were beaten up in front of the officer in-charge and other police men and none came to their rescue,” Babul Supriyo the lcoal MP said adding he was rushing to the spot.“I have friends in the police who are telling that they are helpless as they cannot take any action against such attacks” he maintained adding, “the State police have been renedered into a Trinamool cadre.Such degenration of the police force was not seen even during the CPI(M) rule and even if they were like that it was the duty of the new Poribartan Government to change the way things took place in Bengal. But the things have worsened.”

local Trinamool leader who reportedly led the attack however denied the charges saying “our party men were not involved in the incident. It was the local people who were objecting to the disrepectful words that were being used by the BP workers from the procession.”The incident took place even as the BJP which was observing a dawn-to-dusk bandh at Basirhat oraganised Thana-gherao programmes through out the State.

Meanwhile, BJP State president Rahul Sinha said a five-member team of Central BJP leaders including its national spokesperson Meenakshi lekhi, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party’s in-charge for Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh, State MPs SS Ahluwalia and Babul Supriyo were coming to inspect the situation at Basirhat at the behest of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who was quite concerned at the way the things were happening in Bengal.

“These are all nervous reactions of the Trinamool Congress. The attacks show that they are getting nervous with the rise of the BJP in the State. The more they are losing ground in Bengal the more they are attacking our men,” Sinha maintained.
