South West monsoon will enter Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh on Monday and will progress further and cover entire State of Telangana within next five days, the Indian Meteorological department at Hyderabad said.

Weather officials said that the monsoon will enter Telangana on June 7, two days later than earlier projected. Presently moving over Karnataka, the system will move in westerly direction and enter Rayalaseema on Monday, they said.

last year the monsoon had covered entire Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by June 18. Officials said that currently the weather conditions were not conducive causing the slow movement of monsoon. The temperatures were inordinately high and 2.5 degrees above normal in most of parts of Telangana.

Monsoon had entered Kerala on May 30 and if it had maintained its same speed, it should have reached Telangana by now but it got slowed down due to the absence of winds. Even if the monsoon reaches five days later than earlier expected and covers Telangana by June 10, there is no cause for concern, officials said.

Meanwhile, a powerful thunderstorm and heavy rains struck Hyderabad last night bringing relief from the scorching heat of the last few days. After a day of unbearable heat when the temperature had crossed 43 degrees in many places in Telangana, Hyderabad recorded 41 degrees, skies  opened up in the evening bringing down the temperature.

Rain was so heavy that less than an hour-long spell brought many roads of the city flooded hampering the traffic flow and causing hardship.

Director of IMD Hyderabad YK Reddy said that thunder storm with gale winds and hail storm was likely to occur at many places in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the next 48 hours under the influence of an upper trough prevailing from Vidarbha through Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
