More than two years after the formation of Telangana State, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay his maiden official visit to the State next month.
last time he had visited Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana was during the 2014 election campaign of BJP-TDP alliance.
Modi’s visit to Telangana had become a bone of contention between the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Opposition BJP with the latter alleging that the State Government had not formally extended any invitation to the Prime Minister.
However the issue came to a closure with the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao calling on the Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi and extending him a formal invitation to visit the State and take part in two major programs of the Government.
According to the tentative program, the Prime Minster will launch “Mission Bhagiratha” on August 7 in Chief Minister’s own constituency Gajwel in Medak. Under this program the State Government envisaged to supply safe drinking water to every household of the State.
Modi is also scheduled to lay foundation stone for a prestigious Fertilizer plant in Ramagundam town of Karimnagar district and will also unveil a pylon marking Mission Kakatiya of the State Government. The Mission is aimed at restoration, repair and rejuvenating the irrigation tanks across Telangana.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister KCR urged for urgent steps to bifurcate the Hyderabad High Court which has become a burning issue between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the unrest in the State judiciary, the recent strike by the judges and the advocates and the suspension of some of the agitating judges by the High Court.
However the official sources said that the Prime Minister did not give any categorical commitment to KCR on the issue.
