The Congress said BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi is yet to get clean chit over his role in Gujarat riots from the Supreme Court or the High Court hence he should not term himself as ‘innocent’.

“Only the SIT set up by a trial court has given Modi a clean chit but neither the Supreme Court and nor the High Court has given the same yet,” claimed Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi here on Friday.Addressing a Press conference, Singhvi, an eminent lawyer said Modi’s refusal to seek an apology over the Gujarat riots by Modi shows his arrogance and dictatorial attitude similar like of Hitler and Mussolini. “When a person is given clean chit by higher court, then only he could feel relief. There are three cases pending against Modi in High Court and couple of cases in the apex court over the Gujarat riots,” he said. Earlier, Modi refused to seek apology over Gujarat riots saying that people have given him mandate in the Gujarat elections and the SIT has given him a clean chit.

Reacting on the Election Commission’s decision to lift ban on BJP leader Amit Shah but refusing the same to SP leder Azam Khan, Congress spokespersons said they maintain that Shah and Khan are two sides of the same coin and their ideologies are based on communalism and dividing the society on religion and caste lines. “We cannot say both the leaders as gentlemen,” he said but refused to comment on the EC’s decision.

Singhvi appealed to the people not to choose either the communal BJP or the regional parties who have forced Uttar Pradesh to backwardness. “People of the state are in a fix but they should choose candidate of that party which had cared for them and have secular credentials,” he added. The Congress spokesperson blamed the Samajwadi Party government here in UP for taking a lenient step in the MGNREGA scam and for not implementing the Food Security Act.”

Hitting out at BJP, the Congress leader said inner bickering within the party has created a stir among senior leaders like lK Advani,  Sanjay Joshi,  Kalraj Mishra, lalji Tandon and Jaswant Singh have already opposed him.  He also defended the release of an old video of Uma Bharati in which she had criticised Modi when she was heading a separate party.  “We have never said that it was a new video but it proves that what BJP leaders think about him”, Singhvi said.
