Border Security Force (BSF) jawans guarding the India-Pakistan border along Kutch region will have a special guest on the Independence Day. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would visit BSF camp in order to boost their morale.
Generally, Modi pays visit to Kutch border at least once in a year, especially during desert festival. However, this visit has drawn attention due to killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistan Army along the line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir. BJP’s campaign committee chief had also criticised the UPA Government for “being absolutely lax in securing borders”. Due to the incident not only proceedings of both Houses of Parliament was stalled, controversy has also been created after the statements of Union Defence Minister AK Antony and Bihar Minister Bhim Singh.
Modi would interact with the BSF personnel and also visit war memorial. He would also have lunch with the soldier, said a senior official in the Kutch district administration. “The Gujarat Government has also extended support to create facilities for the soldiers. A 27-km-long pipeline has been laid for uninterrupted drinking water supply to Armymen,” he said, adding that the war memorial is being developed which is in the proximity of the famous Kutch desert festival venue. The State Government has also provided TV sets and dish antennas. The State also provides 66 KV electricity supply from Vighakot substation. In previous years, Modi had visited the Vighakot Pillar Post and the wire fencing at the border area. “Every time he distributes sweets to the jawans,” said an official.
