Narendra Modi is visiting his home State for the first time after he was sworn-in as the Prime Minister in the last week of May this year. The PM is coming to Gujarat for two days, 16th and 17th of September, in the wake of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit.
Interestingly, on September 16, results of poll-bound nine Assembly seats and Vadodara lok Sabha constituency will also be declared. The next day the PM will celebrate his 64th birthday. He will also pay a visit to his brother Pankaj’s house in Gandhinagar to take blessings of his mother Hira Ba. Every year, Modi starts his day on his birthday by taking blessings of Hira Ba, even after becoming the PM; he is likely to continue this tradition.
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel during an election public meeting at Jam Khambhalia in Saurashtra region also appealed to the voters and BJP cadres to gift victory in bypolls held for 10 seats on Modi’s birthday. The saffron party has planned a grand celebration (Vijayotsav) in anticipation of victory in all 10 seats on the 16th of September and if sources in Gujarat BJP are to be believed Modi will attend the function.
Confirming the visit of both the leaders — Modi and Jinping, Patel said that it is a fortunate development for the State that two most powerful political leaders of Asia would be on Gujarat soil. “During the reign of the Congress, Chief Ministers used to visit Delhi and they were given little importance. Now the time has changed. Not only the Indian Prime Minister but even China’s President is visiting a small State like Gujarat,” she remarked.
Coming down heavily on the Congress, the CM said that ever since the formation of Gujarat in the year 1960, the Congress neglected the State and paid little attention to its development and people. It was only after the Modi’s model of development that the State started progressing fast and caught the attention of countries across the globe, she added.
