YSR-Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy remained on huger strike on Monday, as anti-Telangana demonstrations burned thro-ugh Andhra-Seema regions. Normal life again came to a standstill in Anantapur district in response to a 72-hour strike.
Doctors said Jagan was stable at Hyderabad’s Chanchalguda Central Jail. Jagan launched his fast after the police forcibly broke the indefinite fast for a united Andhra by his mother Vijayalakshmi in Guntur on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a CBI court extended Jagan’s judicial custody in a disproportionate assets case till September 6. He and the other accused deposed in court via video link. The custody of former Minister Mopidevi Venkatramanna, Nimmagadda Prasad and Brahmanand Reddy was also extended.
Venkatramanna also resigned from the Assembly in support of a united Andhra. He gave his resignation to Chanchalguda Jail authorities to be forwarded to Speaker N Manohar.
A group of Telangana advocates met Inspector General of Prisons Sunil Kumar and demanded that Jagan be shifted to another jail in Andhra or Rayalaseema region as his political activity was creating disharmony among the people of the region.
Anantapur downed shutters completely, as shops, business establishments, banks and educational institutions were closed and buses and autorickshaws stayed off the road.
On the other hand, Telangana Rashtra Samiti legislature party is sending a delegation to the National Capital to brief all parties about the situation in the State and mobilise opinion in support of Telangana State.
In view of the increasing tension between the Telangana and Andhra-Seema Govern-ment employees, the State has started cracking down on competitive demonstrations. There is restriction on the use of mikes by Secretariat employees. Andhra-Seema employees on Monday shouted slogans against Sonia Gandhi, within the Secretariat complex.
Tension also prevailed in Vidyut Soudha, headquarters of the power utility, with demonstrations and counter-protests. Alleging that Andhra employees had attacked Telangana employees, TRS MlA T Harish Rao tried to enter Vidyut Soudha but was detained by the police.
