The growing nexus between the jehadi elements and militants outfits in the North-East region will be high on agenda for the scheduled conference of All India Director General of Police (DGPs) that will take place in Assam this weekend.

Assam DGP Khagen Sarma said this while interacting with the newsmen on Thursday and added that the Assam Police have intensified the security arrangements across the State in the run-up to the conference, which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Besides, the heads of all the Central Paramilitary Forces, intelligence officials, representatives from the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Chief Ministers of all the Northeastern States will also participate in the conference.

Security remained a concern for the Assam Police ahead of the prestigious conference as the militant outfits have already stepped-up violence across the State. While some cadre of the anti-talk faction of the Ulfa had gunned down one person in lakhimpur district during the wee hours on Thursday, the city police seized three boxes of explosives from a commercial vehicle near Mizoram House in the city on Thursday.

The explosives included 1,200 detonators, more than 500 gelatin sticks and 12 rolls of wire in the boxes, police said adding that the commercial vehicle came from Meghalaya.
