The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has nominated a senior leader Kotta Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate form prestigious Medak lok Sabha constituency. The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who decided to retain Gajwel Assembly seat.

Name of Prabhakar Reddy was finalised after detailed discussions in which four-five other names were also figured. Telangana Non Gazetted Officers Association president Devi Prasad was also among the contenders for the TRS ticket. Prabhakar Reddy’s choice came as a surprise to many because he was denied Assembly ticket in general elections.

With the Congress and the BJP-TDP alliance deciding to contest the by-election, the constituency was going to seen a tri angular contest. Prabhakar Reddy and other candidates were likely to file their nominations on Wednesday, the last day of nomination. The by-election is slated for September 13.

In continuation of the electoral alliance, the Telugu Desam Party has decided to support the BJP candidate. As KCR had won this seat, retaining Medak has become a prestige issue for the TRS. KCR held a meeting with the Ministers, MlAs and MPs of the party to chalk out a foolproof strategy to win the by-election. Of the six assembly segments of Medak lok Sabha, two segments Sangareddy and Patancheru will be looked after by two deputy Chief Ministers T Rajaiah and Mahmood Ali. Three Ministers including KCR’s son K Taraka Rama Rao will be in charge of three other segments.
