The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has issued a strong message to city residents, warning of strict action against anyone contributing to pollution or littering in the city. The civic body has decided to intensify its ongoing efforts to keep Gurugram clean, pollution-free, and well-disciplined.
MCG officials stated that heavy penalties will be imposed on those found littering, burning waste, dumping garbage or debris in public areas, transporting or storing construction material without proper covering, burning wood or coal in open areas, or using banned single-use plastic. The corporation’s enforcement teams are conducting continuous patrolling and surveillance. Violators are being fined on the spot, and legal action is being initiated when necessary.
During a review meeting held on Monday, MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said that the corporation will now take even stricter measures against individuals or establishments that disrupt the city’s sanitation system. He informed that 90 Assistant Sanitation Inspectors have been deployed across market areas and among street vendors to maintain constant vigilance. “If anyone is found dumping garbage on roads or burning waste, immediate action will be taken,” he warned.
The Commissioner directed all shopkeepers and vendors to keep dustbins at their establishments and dispose of waste only in them. He further instructed that garbage should be handed over only to the designated MCG collection vehicles. The timing of garbage collection in market areas will be finalised in consultation with traders to ensure a smooth and efficient waste management process. If garbage is found in front of any shop, that establishment will be fined. He reiterated that the use of single-use plastic is completely banned, and violators will face penalties.
Commissioner Dahiya also instructed officials to make the stretch from Hero Honda Chowk to Subhash Chowk free from encroachments and vending activities. He ordered regular cleaning, debris removal, and measures to prevent waste accumulation on this route. The MCG’s anti-encroachment drives on major city roads will continue as part of an ongoing campaign.
To curb illegal dumping of debris along roadsides, vacant plots, Faridabad Road, and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), the Commissioner directed the Sanitation Security Force to maintain round-the-clock surveillance. The force has been authorized to seize violating vehicles, impose fines, and file FIRs against offenders when required.
Dahiya emphasised that MCG is working with full commitment to maintain a high standard of sanitation and ensure strict compliance with the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Appealing to citizens, he said, “Everyone should come forward with the spirit of ‘My City, My Responsibility’ and help keep Gurugram clean and beautiful.” He also encouraged residents to carry cloth bags while shopping and to avoid plastic altogether.
