Maruti Suzuki India has shipped more than 50,000 electric vehicles overseas since it began exporting them in August 2025. This makes it by far the country’s largest exporter of electric passenger vehicles.
The company accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026, according to industry body SIAM. It was also India’s top EV exporter in FY2025-26.
All of these exports are the e Vitara, Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle. It is built only at the company’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the start of e Vitara production at the plant in August 2025, when the model was announced for sale in more than 100 countries. It now reaches about 50 markets, including the UK, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland. Europe was the first market to get the model and is still the largest.
“In April-September 2026, Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO. “This milestone reflects India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and its growing competitiveness.”
The EV numbers add to Maruti Suzuki’s lead in overall exports. It has been India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for five straight financial years. It held more than half of the country’s passenger vehicle exports in the first half of FY2026-27. The carmaker currently ships 16 models to nearly 120 countries.
The Hansalpur plant is now central to that export strategy. Its annual capacity was recently raised to one million vehicles, the first time any Suzuki plant worldwide has reached that level at a single site. Investment in the facility totals `25,288.7 crore. It produced almost half of Maruti Suzuki’s overseas shipments in FY2025-26.
Exporting a large share of the E Vitara also helps Maruti Suzuki keep strong volumes, while domestic sales average around 1500-2000 units monthly.
