Maoists threaten Koraput Sub-Judge

PNS

Sub-Judge (Senior Division) of Civil Court in Koraput Debasis Panda on Tuesday received a speed post parcel sent by a suspected Maoist.

This has happened for the first time in undivided Koraput district. After opening the parcel, Panda found that it contained a detonator, two live cartridges, a Telugu magazine and a handwritten letter threatening to kill him in a Praja Court, a source revealed. The name of the sender was mentioned as Kameswar Rao from a Raniguda firm, Rayagada town, source added.

The letter further contained that while Panda was posted at Rayagada, he was extending support to the police and was not delivering justice to the public. Also, the letter mentioned that he was following similar practice in Koraput. The Maoists, through the letter, warned Panda to refrain from such practice, lest he would be punished in a Praja Court, the source said.

The letter concluded with "Maobadi Zindabad". "Judge Panda has lodged an FIR at the Koraput Town police station in this regard and investigation is on," said PS IIC Subash Chandra Rayaguru.
