The security forces launched a manhunt to track down two militants including a Pakistani lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) cadre who are believed to have fled away from Kakapora village in south Kashmir where a top-ranking militant was shot dead during a prolonged gunfight on Thursday.
Thousands of people on Friday took part in the funeral prayers of the slain militant, which were followed by massive protests. The leT commander Talib Hussain was shot dead after security forces cordoned off Kakapora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Police said Hussain was involved in a number of attacks on security forces in the southern region. Reports said that two militants including a Pakistani national Qasim Bhai have escaped from the encounter site taking advantage of darkness. Police and security forces launched a joint manhunt. Army says the militants escaped because the security forces preferred to prevent collateral damage during the encounter.
