Some unidentified burglars broke into the branch office of M/s Manappuram Finance limited in the business township of Ulhasnagar in Thane district on Sunday night and decamped with 50 kilograms of gold.
The burglary came to light on Monday morning, when the employees of the leading gold loan firm opened the office, located at Shankar Kripa Apartment at Camp-four locality of Ulhasnagar.
Police said that the incident had taken place around midnight. The burglars reportedly entered the office of M/s Manappuram Finance limited by digging a huge hole through the walls of the water pump room located next to the firm’s office. Having broken into the gold firm’s office, the burglars broke open the safes by using gas cutters and escaped with 30 kilograms of gold.
Given that the burglary has taken place in a central locality like at lalchakki at Camp-4, the incident has come as a major embarrassment for the Ulhasnagar police.
Following the incident, a watchman posted outside the burgled gold loan firm has gone missing. The investigators are examining the footage of three CCTVs installed inside and outside the firm.
Having taken over the investigations from Ulhjasnagar police, the Thane police Crime branch has formed four teams of its sleuths to track down the burglars.
