STUDY CENTRES: As lakhs of young aspirants make Sangam city their home while preparing for different competitive exams, authorities of Smart City Project, Prayagraj plan to convert the smart class rooms in 19 schools of the city into study centres for them.

The Smart City Project proposed to accommodate the young aspirants in the smart classrooms after school hours at a nominal monthly fee of `300. Presently, these aspirants are coughing up between `800 and `1,500 for such a facility. The Smart City Mission has converted a total of 295 classrooms in 19 schools of the city into smart classrooms. As per the proposed plan, the aspirants will be provided with low-cost ‘study centres’, wherein all amenities will be provided that they get by paying hefty amounts to private players in the market. There are around 200 such privately owned study centres in the city. “Prayagraj Smart City will charge a monthly fee of `300, of which an amount of `100 would be retained by Smart city (for the operation of the scheme) while the rest of `200 will be given to the school for meeting out the expenditure for providing the facility”, said Mission Manager (Technical) of the Smart City project, SK Sinha. He said an app for slot-booking of these study centres will be developed through which the users will be able to pay the fees for the facility. Sinha also claimed that Prayagraj will be the first city in the state to come up with this idea. The ‘Smart study centres’ will be provided in two phases. In the first phase, seven schools will be provided for the purpose while the remaining 12 will be added later. In the first phase one, 50 smart classrooms in seven schools will be used for the purpose and if 80 per cent occupancy is calculated, 1200 aspirants can be accommodated. “This will generate revenue of `3, 60,000 per month, of which `2, 40,000 will be distributed among the schools and `1, 20,000 will be taken by Smart City Project,” said Sinha. In the second phase, 245 more such classrooms of 12 schools will be provided to the aspirants.
