After her failed attempt to convince President Pranab Mukherjee to accept the offer of re-contesting the Presidential polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will again fly off to Delhi coming Wednesday. She will meet Opposition party leaders and discuss the other possible names to reach a consensus on Presidential candidate.

Insiders explain Mamata’s desperation to field a rival candidate of the Opposition outfits in terms of her

urgency to get the CBI and ED to soft pedal their investigations into the Narada and Sharada scams.

A ‘divided Opposition’s consensus candidate’ will rework on her consensus agenda, a senior party leader said.

The Chief Minister, who was in Delhi early this week, had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Aam Aadmi convenor Arvind Kejriwal and conveyed her party’s desire to field a consensus candidate for Opposition in the poll.

After meeting at 10 Janpath, the residence of the Congress chief, Mamata had said, “We want the entire Opposition to get together and come up with a candidate who will be good for the country.”

The Chief Minister had earlier in an interview floated a few names of her choice for the Presidential candidate.
