Mamata Banerjee may change her present seat in the coming Assembly elections. According to the sources West Bengal Chief Minister is planning to bring two of her powerful MPs back to the State politics and likely to give her seat to one of them.
Banerjee had a couple of days ago declared her plans to bring her Nandigram spearhead and East Midnapore MP Subhendu Adhikary — who led a successful farmer movement that finally catapulted TMC to power — back to State politics.
Adhikary will be made a Minister in the State Government she said. On Wednesday she expanded her plans to include another senior leader and party all-India general secretary Subroto Bakshi back to Kolkata giving him a Cabinet berth. Bakshi had replaced Mukul Roy as the party general secretary.
Banerjee told her confidants that she wanted people like Bakshi and Adhikari in her Cabinet. Bakshi a former MlA from Bhawanipore seat is currently an MP from South Kolkata parliamentary constituency which was earlier held by the Chief Minister before she returned from Delhi. He had left Bhawanipore to Banerjee from where she became an MlA.
According to sources Banerjee may leave her Bhawanipore seat to Bakshi this time round and opt for some other constituency.
By bringing the two leaders back to State politics the Chief Minister could be hitting two birds in a shot, sources said. First by bringing Adhikary — the only Trinamool leader who does not depend on the Chief Minister for his electoral wins — back to Kolkata “she wants to ensure that no intrigue takes place behind her back in Delhi.”
