Make Sonia accountable for Ishrat controversy: BJP

PNS

In a blistering attack against the top Congress leadership on the Ishrat Jahan controversy, the BJP on Monday sought accountability of Congress president Sonia Gandhi for two affidavits which “bore signatures” of the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram expressing  different view on the encounter of the terror outfit leT’s alleged woman operative.

lashing out at the top Congress leadership, the Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said “you have mislead the country and the court by filing two affidavits under oath in the court giving two different theories. both can’t be true.” Referring to reports at a Press conference here she said media has confirmed that the first affidavit had signature of Home Minister.

Asked whether the BJP Government at the centre would go on prosecuting Chidambaram for filing false affidavit, she said the matter was pending in the court and  she was now  speaking for  the party. “let us see what is the response of the Government”,  added the BJP leader.

Sitharaman said the matter now does not rest at the door of Chidambaram and the issue demands an explanation and accountability of Congress president and vice-president Rahul Gandhi. She alleged that  Having failed to take on the then Gujarat Chief Minister  Narednra Modi politically, the Congress employed conspiratorial action of filing a second false affidavit to attack him. They tried to create a picture as if there was not terror threat against Modi.

“The entire Congress is party to it and Congress president and vice-president should responsibility for it. ...It is not Chidambaram anymore but Sonia undermined the security,” said the BJP leader.

She said by their false acts the UPA Government had compromised security of the Government by putting one Government agency against the other (IB versus CBI) and diluted the assets and the institutions built over the years.
