Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is poised to create a transformative cultural, social, and economic impact on Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized the event’s potential to generate Rs 2 lakh crore in business, with experts estimating an economic boost of over 1% to the state’s GDP. This monumental gathering is also expected to significantly increase GST collections, with projections suggesting a potential threefold rise during the peak months of December, January, and February.

The influx of millions of domestic and international pilgrims over 45 days is anticipated to stimulate demand, increase production, create jobs, and enhance financial flows for businesses of all scales. The state government, which is investing Rs 16,000 crore in the event, plans to channel the revenue into infrastructure development, aligning with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of making Uttar Pradesh a one trillion-dollar economy.

Economist and chartered accountant Pankaj Gandhi Jaiswal predicts Mahakumbh 2025 could boost both nominal and real GDP by 1%. With an estimated 45 crore visitors expected to attend and average spending of Rs 10,000 per person, the total economic activity generated could surpass Rs 4.5 lakh crore.

Even accounting for a 10% margin of error, the net contribution would remain above Rs 4 lakh crore. Such economic activity will not only bolster quarterly GDP but also contribute significantly to India’s annual growth.

“The state’s investment will yield manifold returns,” Jaiswal said. “An estimated Rs 4 lakh crore economic activity could result in GST collections of Rs 50,000 crore. Combined with income tax and other indirect taxes, the government’s revenue could exceed Rs 1 lakh crore.”

He further highlighted how this financial influx will stimulate sectors like tourism, transport, real estate, and retail, creating a cascading effect on economic growth.

Chartered accountant Anil Gupta from Prayagraj echoed these sentiments, underscoring the significant economic contributions from infrastructure, transportation, and other sectors.

Gupta noted the transformation of Prayagraj, which now boasts 5-star and 7-star hotels to accommodate global visitors, as a testament to the government’s development initiatives.
