lTC Scam: CBI approaches RS secretariat for documents

PNS

The CBI on Monday approached the Rajya Sabha secretariat seeking documents related to fake travel bills allegedly submitted by JD(U) MP Anil Kumar Sahani against whom a case has been registered for making such claims.

The agency officials had visited the secretariat on Friday to collect the documents and again visited the premises on Monday requesting provision of the documents relating to Sahani’s claims for reimbursement under leave travel concession, agency sources said.

The CBI had on Friday booked Sahani, Air India customer service agent Rubaina Akhtar and lajpat Nagar-based travel operator Air Cruise Travels Pvt. ltd for leave Travel Concession (lTC) claims made by the sitting JD(U) MP on the basis of forged boarding passes and air tickets. The trio has been booked for cheating and forgery among other charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI has alleged that Sahani made false claims for reimbursement for about `9.5 lakh for seven business class return air tickets costing nearly `1.34 lakh each to Port Blair in December 2012 using fake air tickets and boarding passes. The MP had purchased the tickets for himself and six associates.

In its FIR, the CBI has alleged that the MP purchased these e-tickets in connivance with the tour operator and the Air India employee. He also allegedly used online service to get boarding passes using web check-in facility.

The probe so far has revealed these boarding passes and e-tickets were allegedly cancelled using the sign-in code of Akhtar, the Air India official, and money was refunded with a nominal deduction.

However, the e-tickets and boarding passes were allegedly presented before the secretariat to claim the travel expenses by the MP even after cancellation.
