New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 PM on Thursday following protests by Opposition MPs over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

This marks the fourth consecutive day that the Question Hour has been disrupted since the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

As soon as the House met for the day, Opposition members sought to raise the issue of Bihar’s electoral roll revision and shouted slogans. Some members entered the Well of the House, displaying placards.

Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting MPs to return to their seats and assured them that, as per the rules, they would be given opportunities to raise their concerns.

He named senior Congress leader K C Venugopal and remarked that it was not the tradition of his party to resort to sloganeering inside the House.

Birla repeatedly stated that shouting slogans and displaying placards is not in keeping with the dignity of the House and questioned what message such actions would send to the public.

As the protests continued, Birla adjourned the proceedings within seven minutes. Only one question was addressed before the adjournment till 2 PM.

The Opposition is demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, an exercise initiated by the Election Commission ahead of the state assembly elections due later this year.
