Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday came down heavily on the Centre for deciding to make bank accounts Aadhaar compliant saying the effort would ultimately breach the privacy of the holders.
Criticising the Centre for making mention of Aadhaar number mandatory for opening bank accounts and financial transactions beyond of Rs 50,000 and beyond Mamata — many of whose ministerial colleagues were under the CBI and ED scanner for corrupt transactions in Sharada and Narada cases — said the decision was sure to hurt the poor people.
“The poorest of the poor and the marginalised people will be the worst sufferers if Aadhaar is made mandatory unilaterally,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
