libya has refuted the reports of human trafficking for slavery in its country.

libya's Charge D' affairs in India, Khalid IA Azwai, while reacting to a CNN news report that claimed

several African migrant men are sold off in the country for slavery, said on Thursday that a probe has been launched following the media report.

He, however, added that preliminary reports suggest that the CNN report was actually about human smuggling of migrants from libya to European countries and not about slavery as reported.

"libya affirms that illegal migration and its consequences require a serious international effort to tackle it, and therefore, libya calls for effective and practical measures to be taken by countries of origin, transit, and last destination, as well as concerned regional and international organisations, the envoy said.

He added that such cases of human smuggling of migrants to European countries are isolated ones and the Government of libya condemns and rejects such practices.

A CNN report claimed Smugglers in libya are auctioning African migrants off as slaves leading to an uproar by the international community.

The envoy said libya has launched comprehensive investigations into the allegations and his Government is determined to track down and punish the perpetrators involved in human enslavement and smuggling.
