The Kolkata Police on Thursday refused to give permission to RSS for holding a rally at the celebrated Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, sources said.

The rally to be addressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was to be held on January 14.

While the police refused permission on ground that the time would coincide with the Makar Sankranti Mela, RSS sources found “narrow politics” behind the denial of permission. The organisation is planning to move the High Court, sources said.

Meanwhile, in a similar development the Trinamool Congress ruled Asansol Municipal Corporation on Thursday got a resounding rebuff in the High Court when its decision to not allow Sansad Mela to be organised by MP Babul Supriyo at the local Railway Stadium was set aside.

A Division Bench of the Court on Thursday threw out the AMC order allowing the BJP MP to hold his function.
