Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has warned of strict action against content creator Amir Shokeen over a viral video allegedly showing him making racial remarks against a young man from Tripura.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Rijiju said the accused would face consequences despite a delay in filing an official complaint. He said Delhi Police and Tripura Police would “teach him a hard lesson” and criticised those who tolerate such behaviour.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, allegedly shows Shokeen making derogatory remarks about the young man’s appearance and identity, triggering outrage across the Northeast.

Tripura Police has registered an FIR in connection with the incident. A team from the state is expected to travel to Delhi to investigate the case and coordinate with Delhi Police. The Delhi Police Cyber Cell’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit is also investigating the viral video.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police and take appropriate action. The Youth Tipra Federation has also filed a complaint seeking legal action against Shokeen.

Following the backlash, Shokeen issued a video apology, claiming the interaction was scripted and intended as humour. He said he had not intended to insult the young man or the people of Tripura and sought forgiveness from those offended by the video.
